"The best teachers teach from the heart, not from the book."

Just yesterday I had a talk with a teacher at my office regarding Phonics and how much she dreaded having them since she finds it difficult and tiring. This is true but there is a way to make it a lot easier on your side.
Looking at the quote above it talks about it's all about perception and trying to look at it in a very positive light. I guess I am one of the few that loves teaching phonics as there are a lot of things we can talk about and a lot more the student gets to learn.
This is a very important part as it will start the student on reading on his/her own.
My tip on teaching Phonics is... try to have fun as well. I would always recommend Starfall in teaching this as it helps a lot. HOWEVER, since there are some companies that DON'T ALLOW their teachers to open Flash games even if it will be used for class (like in my company now...), what you may do is try and print screen the pictures. This may be a bit tedious but worth the trouble. ^__^
After discussing the sounds and the words you are studying for the day, try to work on using games to make it a lot more fun. Mazes and Connect the dots activities are things you can easily find using Google. Make it related to your lesson.
For example, if I were to teach the Short A vowel sound, I would type the words "Letter A maze" in the search bar of google and look at images. In this case I would find this:
Yes, I understand this maybe difficult for students that are really young, but that's why you are there. You can have fun with the student adding hints on where to go. This hit's two birds with one stone. Your student enjoys and you get a bit entertained.
TO EDUBOXERS, PLEASE REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY FLASH GAMES. EVEN IF IT WILL BE USED FOR CLASS. DO THEM AT HOME OR ASK ME FOR THE PICTURES. THANK YOU ^___^
